Digital painting for “Tebi Maiko Misli Lete” – Music Video

Category:

Description

I had the pleasure to create the digital painting for the incredible musicians at Ladom Ensemble‘s Tebi Maiko Misli Lete music video. 🥰

It was a long process with lots of trial and error until the final solution was achieved. It was so much fun figuring it all out, and creating something in a way that I haven’t done before. It was done digitally by painting with my “brush” (think stylus) on my touch screen. Because I wanted to achieve the real painting and brush feel I had to paint on a white background in order to capture it and then combine it with the video. I tried so many other ways, but I would never be satisfied with the quality, brush look and feel, and overall process.

I painted strokes after strokes, while listening to the music and watching the video on another screen and I was so happy that I loved the piece and never got tired of listening to it over and over. I knew it by heart in the end and could hear it in my head, and still I would listen to it once more with pleasure.

This is the lovely Ladom Ensemble description of the video:

This is a song about longing. A son comes of age and leaves his mother, away over the mountains, and they do not know when they will see each other again. Written in Sarajevo, Bosnia, by the journalist Nikola Škrba, it features our accordionist Michael Bridge. For this project we worked with an incredible Toronto-based visual artist, Nevena Niagolova. She created inspired digital artwork overlayed on top of our video. Film maker Robert DiVito put it all together—filming us on a secret beach in Toronto, and producing this special video!

Ladom Ensemble combines piano, cello, accordion, and percussion in a unique blend of acoustic chamber and world music that is passionate, sophisticated, and wild. Ladom’s musical identity is combined from many sources and their all-original repertoire reflects a beautiful new world with a Western classical toolset, from Persian repertoire, to Bach and Piazzolla, to Radiohead.
